Sustainable development

For many years, the DMD FRANCE Group has been committed to progress, improvement and automation of its production plants to provide better service to its customers. This led to our ISO 9001 certification, followed by the drafting and implementation of a CSR charter. In addition, the DMD FRANCE Group adheres to the United Nations GLOBAL COMPACT and ECOVADIS values. In fact, we have been EcoVadis CSR-assessed since 2011, and have made 10 commitments in line with the Global Compact’s 10 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

At the same time, the DMD FRANCE Group and its managers have always set themselves the goal of achieving economic success for the company, in a spirit of respect for employees and sharing in this success. We are convinced that our performance generates sustainable value beyond our own horizons. We are committed to sustainable development and to respecting the fundamental principles of Corporate Social Responsibility in accordance with the ISO 26000 standard.

Some of our initiatives

1. Our Quality Management System has been certified ISO 9001-compliant since 1994.

2. Since 2018, we have been a member of GLOBAL COMPACT FRANCE and have therefore adopted its 10 principles regarding human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.

3.We have endorsed the ECOVADIS values since 2011: We were awarded a SILVER level in 2022, in recognition of EcoVadis CSR.

4. We make our garments using OEKO-TEX 100 fabrics, to protect wearers from harmful substances. In fact, 99% of our fabrics are OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100-certified and therefore meet the criteria required by the label. Our partner fabric suppliers are OEKO-TEX certified.

5. Our daily target is 100% of waste recycled.

  • Partnership with ELISE for paper recycling.
  • Partnership with PAPREC for recycling cardboard, plastic film and bales, and computer consumables.
  • Sorting bins provided for employees (glass, plastic, supplies, etc.).
  • 100% of the waste produced by our garment workshops in Tunisia is recovered and recycled by specialized partners (collaboration with COTRI for textile waste).

6. Since 2011, we have covered all the Genay site’s electricity needs through 750m2 of photovoltaic panels installed on our roof. We have just installed a further 500m2 of photovoltaic panels in 2020. This total of 1,250m2 of solar panels meets one of the commitments made by DMD France in connection with an SDG (Sustainable Development Goal): Using clean, sustainable energy to minimize our energy impact.

7. Gradual switchover to LED lighting to reduce energy consumption.

8. We have maintained partnerships with our main suppliers for almost 30 years, convinced of the importance of long-term relationships with companies that share our values.

9. We take CSR criteria into account when selecting our suppliers (CSR questionnaires).

10. In collaboration with local government in Ain, France and the Chalaronne River preservation society, we regularly finance plantings of 90 cm tall forest seedlings in the Dombes region.

2016: Planted1,400 trees to create 700 metres of double hedgerows.

2017: Planted 300 birch trees.

2019: Planted 1,270 trees.

2020: Planted 600 additional trees.

2021: Planted 700 additional trees.

11. In 2019, we invited all Group employees on a trip to Tunisia to see our production facilities and enjoy some shared time together.

12. Setting up an internal CSR challenge.

13. Through “Un Toit Pour Les Abeilles”, a network of around 100 bee-keepers, we decided to sponsor a hive containing around 40,000 bees. 🐝 This sponsorship satisfies one of the commitments made by DMD France Group in connection with an SDG (Sustainable Development Goal): To preserve and restore terrestrial ecosystems and halt the loss of biodiversity. Through this initiative, we want not only to help save bees in our region, as they are so important for biodiversity, but also to support local, artisanal and sustainable bee-keeping. We decided to sponsor the hive of the nearest local bee-keeper, located in Sennecey-le-Grand in Saône-et-Loire (Southern Burgundy), a 1-hour drive from our headquarters in Genay, France. 14. We develop workwear collections made from recycled or responsibly-sourced materials.

15. We support our customers in the management of their end-of-life workwear (recycling).
